God is creating in us a “new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” How does this happen? God makes us alive in Christ and then we imitate Christ (5:1) by steps of faithful, daily obedience, such as speaking truthfully, working diligently at our jobs, speaking edifying words, loving wives, submitting to husbands, and obeying parents.
